18 months
Well, I did it again. Chloe is actually now 19 months, but here's a look at 18 months!
"She's on the growth chart!" were the words I heard from our sweet pediatrician, Dr. Amy, when I took Chloe in for her well check up. Yay! She finally hit 20 lbs.! 20 lbs. and 5 oz. to be exact, putting her in the 3rd-5th% in weight. She's 31 inches in height, in the 25th%. Although she's still petite, she's growing up fast and definitely a toddler!
Chloe is a very busy little one, keeping me on my toes. She's more of a climber than even Esther at this age, and can climb up into the top bunk where Arden sleeps in a matter of seconds. Chairs, couches, even the suburban are no match for little Chloe.
Even though she's little, she has a big personality and I am so thankful for it! Chloe makes us smile, she makes us laugh, she seems to be the comedian in the family. I do have to watch myself though to make sure I'm not always laughing at the things she does or how she reacts, especially when it's behavior we don't want to encourage!
Chloe gives incredible hugs. The kind where she puts both arms around your neck, buries her face and squeezes with everything she's got and doesn't let go. I hope she always gives them this way.
Although her vocabulary had slowed down right before turning 18 months, the week following the 18 month mark, it picked up again and hasn't stopped. Her newest word is "buckle." She is quite entertained in her high chair for lengths of time buckling herself. I do have to unbuckle her though, but hopefully she won't learn to do that any time soon!
She also still has great interest in shoes and loves putting them on and taking them off, as well as trying on others' shoes. It's also usually the first thing she will show someone that she sees... she will put one foot up in the air and say "shoes" as a way of greeting.
her curly q top
Chloe, you are a precious blessing from the Lord and we love, love, love you!

Daddy/Daughter date night at Chick-fil-a!
A few Fridays ago, our Chick-fil-a had Daddy/Daughter date night! Woody took all three girls for this special outing and I do mean special!
Chick-fil-A did it right...
there was a red carpet lining the sidewalk to the entrance and once inside, they were greeted and the girls were given a red carnation. The greeter took them to their table, covered with a white table cloth, and then they were waited on by a server, also dressed in white, as if they were in a nice sit-down restaurant! The girls were also each given a little cow stuffed animal with a coupon around its neck. ( Mommy and Daddy were excited about the coupons. :-) ) And as if all of this wasn't enough, there was an excursion LIMO giving the daddies and daughters a ride around the shopping center parking lot! Needless to say, the girls (and Woody) had an incredible time! I took the picture below before they left and made Woody promise to take some while they were out, so the rest are from his perspective. And I have to say, although I wish I could've seen all of this first hand, I enjoyed my time with other mommies at a warehouse sale!

the lions are back!
Two of our city's most famous icons are back where they belong... at the west end of the Bridge of Lions connecting downtown and the island. The lions have stood here since the bridge opened in 1927, but were removed in 2005 when rehabilitation work began on the bridge. When we moved to this city, the rehabilitation project was in full force and there was a temporary bridge built right next to the Bridge of Lions that was used. Last year, the newly restored bridge reopened and over this last year, they have completely taken down the temporary bridge (yay!) and have been working on landscaping and parks at both ends. And now, after 6 years, the lions are back! Woody and I visited here back in 2003 and got to see the lions, so it was a lot of fun taking the girls to see them for the first time. They had no idea what Mommy and Daddy were talking about and why we (well, mainly me) were so excited to see lions! We assured them that the lions were not real, but statues. :) It is SO NICE going downtown now and seeing the lions and the beautifully restored bridge and not having to see or hear all the construction!

future worship team members
I'm on the worship team at our church, and since our church meets in an elementary school cafeteria, we get to set up and take down each Sunday. (note the lovely blue cafeteria walls in the pic!) The girls love helping out on the Sundays that I sing and they also usually want to "sing up front like Mommy." A sweet friend got this shot of them a few weeks ago while we were packing everything up to go back in the trailer. They were singing, "Joyful (the One Who Saves)," a song we had done that morning. It makes my heart swell to hear them singing, "Jesus, you are our Rescue. Jesus, you are my Rescue. I give you everything I am."

safe in His arms
The night before Arden turned 5 and Auburn became national champions, we got some unexpected, but exciting news. We were pregnant. Exactly one week before this news, we received some other, not so exciting news... Woody had been laid off. The combination of these was quite interesting and if thought about for too long, could be very overwhelming. By God's grace, we entered this new season of life with our trust and our hope completely in Him and He truly gave us a peace that passes all understanding. We told a few close friends and family of our news and asked for prayer that the Lord would protect this new life within me. Although excited, I was cautious, as this was our seventh pregnancy. One of my first thoughts after having the positive pregnancy test was, "I don't think I can go through another miscarriage." At this point, we had had three miscarriages, one before each of our precious girls, and so if I looked at our history and relied on my own thoughts, the outcome of this pregnancy did not look hopeful. Yet, still the Lord was gracious and I was encouraged by His Word, by friends and family that no matter the outcome, He is Sovereign, He is steadfast in His love. He is my Rock and my Refuge, I can trust Him. Over the next month, I was extremely tired and nauseous, but not necessarily as bad as my other first trimesters. Woody became super Dad as he always does, and took care of me, the girls and the house. There were even 2 weeks during this time where all the girls ran fevers for 4-5 days! This is where we were very thankful that Woody did not have a consistent job so that he might take care of our family. We looked to our first appointment with the doctor and hoped to share our wonderful news with more friends and family once it was behind us. The thought of having a fourth child had really come to excite us.
This past Wednesday was my appointment. I was 9 1/2 weeks along. The routine ultrasound was the last thing to be done. She was too quiet for too long. I've been here before. In fact our very first miscarriage was seven years ago, almost to this day. We have found out about all of our miscarriages through ultrasounds. My body has never shown signs of miscarrying and Wednesday was no different. She turned the computer screen for me to see our precious baby measuring 8 1/2 weeks, but with no movement, no heartbeat. This image is burned in my mind. I was by myself as Woody stayed home with Esther and Chloe who were still running fevers at this point. I was numb. How could this be? Things were going to be different this time. I waited to call Woody until I got back to his truck trying to fight back the tears as I made my way through the hospital. I didn't have to say anything, I couldn't, I was crying and he knew and told me to stay put; he was coming to get me. While waiting on him, I received words of encouragement and prayers from friends and family and was able to rest in the Lord. My fourth D and C followed on Friday morning and physically the recovery has been better at least compared to the last time. I still don't have a lot of energy, but I'm hoping/struggling to get back into the swing of things and be wife and mommy to our 3 blessings here on earth.
With that said, I feel like I'm just now beginning to process everything and today alone, I think I've cried more than the last 4 days combined. My heart aches, I feel empty and I still feel numb. My emotions come in waves. I think I said this last time, but these don't get any easier, if anything, it has been harder with each miscarriage, just in different ways. But the steadfast love and faithfulness of the Lord is carrying me. I can trust Him and I do trust Him. I don't understand why this would happen again, but He knows and has a reason and a plan. He has graciously given us peace and we adore Him "as being in control of everything." (1 Chronicles 29:11) In addition to all of this, Woody was supposed to start a new job on Wednesday. He called his new employer and his start date was pushed back a week- a huge praise to be able to stay with me and the girls full time for a few more days. We have also been blessed by the Body, friends and family, with prayers, meals and help with our girls.
Over the last few days, lines from a song taken from Psalm 62, have played over and over again in my head, reassuring me and giving me strength, "Find rest, my soul, in God alone."
I find myself resting in Him and I am thankful that our fourth little one is now also safe in His arms.
Psalm 62
Aaron Keyes and Stuart Townend
My soul finds rest in God alone, My Rock and my salvation,
A fortress strong against my foes, And I will not be shaken.
Though lips may bless and hearts may curse,
And lies like arrows pierce me,
I'll fix my heart on righteousness, I'll look to Him who hears me.
O praise Him, hallelujah, My Delight and my Reward;
Everlasting, never failing, My Redeemer, my God.
Find rest, my soul, in God alone Amid the worlds temptations;
When evil seeks to take a hold I'll cling to my salvation.
Though riches come and riches go,
Don't set your heart upon them;
The fields of hope in which I sow Are harvested in heaven.
I'll set my gaze on God alone, And trust in Him completely;
With every day pour out my soul, And He will prove His mercy.
Though life is but a fleeting breath,
A sigh too brief to measure,
My King has crushed the curse of death and I am His forever.
O praise Him, O praise Him, hallelujah, hallelujah.

meet our 5-year-old!
In January, Arden turned the big 5!! She's been talking about turning 5 it seems since the day after she turned 4! She was super excited that she got to go to school on her birthday and celebrate with her friends. Getting to wear a crown and stand in a chair while her friends sang "Happy Birthday" was a REALLY big deal!
It turned out that a classmate's birthday was the day before Arden's and so the girls got to celebrate together and have a little class party! Here they are with their teachers, "conducting" the class in song.
Esther and Chloe got to join in on the fun and thoroughly enjoyed their treats.
At home the afternoon of her birthday, some friends dropped by and we had an impromptu party complete with cupcakes, ice cream and party hats! I'd gotten the hats just for fun, already had ice cream, and had made cupcakes for our family to have and so I was thrilled that we could share them with others (and not have lots of leftover cake to eat! :)
Thrilled to say the least...
Some of our guests...
For dinner, Arden got to choose where she wanted to eat - Chick-fil-A, no surprise there! I do have to say though I was a little nervous she would say Sonny's. At breakfast, she had announced that "Your birthday's a big deal at Sonny's." We realized on the way to CFA, that the marquis at Sonny's has this quote-ha! Thankfully, she opted for Chick-fil-A!
Back at home, she opened presents from Nonie and Dagan and Aunt Hannah, Uncle Michael and Kai while video chatting with them on iChat.
And to end the day, Arden opened her present from Mommy and Daddy, a "big girl" Bible. She is reading unbelievably well these days and had actually started grabbing our Bibles and opening them up to read. We got her the ESV Seek and Find Bible and we all love it! It's for 5-9 year olds and has the complete Bible text, but also adds some of the stories written in more child-friendly way, along with illustrations and symbols to help find key verses, etc. (Allison-they do have paperbacks on Amazon!)
More to come in the next post of celebrating early with G.G. and Papa and cousin Halli!
Arden, we love you and it is a true joy watching you grow and seeing the Lord working in your life!
